Mitch Daniels is beginning his first full-day as president of Purdue University. He held meetings on campus yesterday after arriving in West Lafayette following the inauguration ceremony for Mike Pence at the Statehouse. During a recent interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, Daniels said there is still a "huge upside" to Purdue's continuing role in the state's economic development efforts.
Daniels is open to more public-private collaboration in the state, including the "genius that's in our research institutions."
That could take the form of a statewide research institute, which was originally proposed by Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) Chief Executive Officer John Lechleiter.
