Indianapolis, Ind. -- Proudly celebrating its fifth year of operation, the Indy Winter Farmers Market (IWFM) will open in The Platform, the reconstructed west wing of historic City Market (202 E. Market St), on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. IWFM will feature more than 60 local vendors throughout the season and is one of the best places to find locally grown, nutritious and fresh foods in Greater Indianapolis during Indiana’s cool season.
The IWFM staff is excited to announce Chipotle Mexican Grill as a new sponsor for the 2012-13 season. To kick off its sponsorship, the first 250 individuals through the door on opening day (Nov.10) will receive a token valued at $5 courtesy of Chipotle. The Chipotle tokens can be used toward purchases with any IWFM vendor and may be redeemed on Nov. 10 only. Sponsorship by Chipotle will also assist with marketing and outreach development for the IWFM this season.
“We are so grateful for the generous support of Chipotle Mexican Grill and all of our sponsors,” said IWFM Executive Director Laura Henderson. “Their contribution will help make a positive impact on the local economy and food community. By increasing our customers’ purchasing power, they in turn support the dedicated farmers and producers at the IWFM.”
The Eat Well Initiative, sponsored by Wishard Health Services, will return to IWFM for its second season with a goal of increasing access to healthy foods in Central Indiana, especially for residents who are underserved and most vulnerable to food scarcity. Customers with a Hoosier Works card can employ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits through electronic benefits transfer (EBT) at the IWFM Information Table. With a simple swipe of the card, customers will receive reusable tokens for purchasing weekly staples and groceries from IWFM vendors.
The IWFM will run from Nov. 10, 2012 through April 27, 2013 and is open each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. The market will be closed on Dec. 29. Free parking will be available at the northeast corner of Market and Alabama and north of the old Central Library at New York and Alabama. For customers traveling on bike, Indy Bike Hub YMCA & Bicycle Garage Indy Downtown will provide free indoor parking for IWFM customers.
“Making the Indy Winter Farmers Market part of your weekly routine is great for busting the winter blues,” added Henderson. “Its good for your mind, body and spirit plus its benefits the local economy, our environment and builds community.”
