San Diego, CA -- The San Diego Padres announced today that they have extended their Player Development Contract with the Single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps of the Midwest League through the 2014 season. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.
“Continuing our relationship with the TinCaps was a top priority for us,” said Byrnes. “The winning tradition instilled at Parkview Field and with the city of Fort Wayne makes the environment an ideal place for our players to grow. We look forward to another two successful years with the TinCaps organization.”
Since becoming a Midwest League affiliate of the Padres in 1999, Fort Wayne has compiled a 970-973 (.499) record, including a 69-71 (.493) record this year. With a 38-32 (.543) second-half finish this past season, the TinCaps advanced to the Midwest League playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, the longest current streak in the Midwest League, and have reached the playoffs nine times since becoming a Padres affiliate. The club has reached the Midwest League finals twice in the last four years, including this season.
“We are thrilled to extend our affiliation with Fort Wayne and the TinCaps,” said Padres Vice President, Player Development and International Scouting Randy Smith. “We have enjoyed a long successful relationship and look forward to continuing that tradition. Everything is first class from the front office to the best playing surface in the Midwest League. Our players love playing for the TinCaps and we feel it is a great place to develop winning players.”
“We are very happy to continue what has been a productive and mutually beneficial relationship with the San Diego Padres,” said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. “Baseball fans in Fort Wayne have been treated to top-notch talent on the field and exemplary individuals in the community, too. We have enjoyed working with the Padres since 1999, and look forward to watching the future stars of the franchise continue to develop here at Parkview Field.”
The 2013 season will mark the 15th-consecutive year of the Padres and TinCaps affiliation. Since the club moved to Parkview Field in 2009, the TinCaps have posted a 309-250 (.553) record, second-best in the Midwest League over that span.
