Exports, Hybrids Drive Honda Expansion

InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report

A major hiring initiative is underway at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana LLC in Greensburg. Business Division Manager Andy Snider says 300 employees are being brought on board as part of a previously announced $40 million expansion. That is in addition to the hiring of around 1,000 workers last year when the plant added a second shift. In an interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, Snider says the employees are needed for new hybrid models and an anticipated increase in exports.

He says the plant currently sends vehicles to Mexico, Latin America, Canada and China. Those exports account for roughly 8 percent of the the Greensburg facility's total production and Snider expects that to double next year.

Snider adds plans call for capacity to increase by 50,000 vehicles a year to 250,000 at the plant.

That includes production of the Civic Hybrid, which is slated to begin next year.
