Groundbreaking is set for today in Greene County on a $14 million Battery Innovation Center. The initiative at WestGate@Crane Technology Park is expected to accelerate the development of new energy storage devices and technologies. Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman is expected to attend the ceremony.

The Battery Innovation Center (BIC) in the WestGate @ Crane Technology Park will provide a new research and development center for the development of state-of-the-art energy storage devices and technologies. The Center will be supported by the $2 billion Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) center of excellence for Department of Defense (DOD) energy storage, as well as numerous major industry leaders (Cummins) and universities (Notre Dame, Purdue, etc.)
Who:
Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Congressman Larry Bucshon, industry leaders, WestGate and Greene County officials will take part in a formal ground-breaking to begin construction of the $14 million Battery Innovation Center
Why:
NSWC Crane’s energy development and battery technology expertise has long been an industry leader. Creation of the Battery Innovation Center in the WestGate is expected to accelerate development of new cutting-edge energy storage devices and technologies. The WestGate facility will allow NSWC Crane to interact with commercial companies and universities outside of the 100-square-mile military base adjacent to the WestGate tech park.
