A smoking ban bill is slated for discussion and possible vote by the South Bend Common Council today. The measure would ban smoking at bars and restaurants, gaming facilities and hotels.
It would exempt such spaces as retail tobacco stores, fraternal clubs and outdoor areas of golf most courses.
In prior debate, some members of council raised concerns that South Bend smokers would leave city establishments for places out of the restrictions' reach.
If approved, the measure would take effect July 1.
