Gerry Dick, Inside INdiana Business.com

The chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based Lumina Foundation calls Mitch Daniels a “bold and exciting” choice to be Purdue University's next president. Jamie Merisotis says "this is no time to be static" in the world of higher education, adding that Daniels' ability to lead and create change can help position Purdue as "the new American University." As for Daniels' lack of traditional credentials for a university president, Merisotis says there are numerous examples of political or private sector professionals successfully transitioning to higher education and he thinks the move is being well-received around the nation.

Merisotis said the move helps Purdue be a "major driver" in increasing attainment of Indiana college graduates.
