The state's May employment report will be released today. April's unemployment rate was 7.9 percent. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says it marked the first time since 2008 the rate dropped below 8 percent.
The department also says Indiana led the nation in private sector job growth in April, adding 15,400 jobs.
Some neighboring states have already released their unemployment rates for May.
Michigan's rate hit 8.5 percent, up slightly from the previous month.
The Illinois unemployment rate is down for ninth consecutive month. It stands at 8.6 percent.
The rate in Kentucky is 8.2 percent and lower for a tenth straight month.
The May employment report for Ohio is expected to be released Friday.
