The legacy of an Evansville man who passed away last summer will continue through nonprofit groups. Franklin Gillespie has left behind a $1 million estate to be divided among 22 charitable organizations. Our partners at the Courier & Press in Evansville report four local nonprofits will receive nearly $50,000 each.
Gillespie bequeathed the funds to the Ronald McDonald House in Evansville, the Evansville Vanderburgh County Public Library, the Hadi Shriners and the Santa Clothes Club.
Fifth Third Bank in Southern Indiana will disperse the donations and met with the local beneficiaries yesterday.
The paper reports that at the time of his passing, the 73 year old army veteran was survived by four cousins.
