A conference committee is scheduled to meet this morning at the Statehouse in an effort to come up with a final version of a statewide smoking ban. The negotiations come as lawmakers aim to wrap up the 2012 session this week. Joe Smith with Faegre Baker Daniels LLP's government team talks with Gerry Dick about some business related bills that still need to be resolved.
The Senate has passed a smoking ban bill for the first time. But those supporting more strict measures on smoking are concerned that too many exemptions have been included and the proposal has been watered down too much.
Governor Mitch Daniels says he prefers the House version, compared to the Senate bill.
He supports the concept of a statewide smoking ban, but would like a proposal with as few exemptions as possible to reach his desks
