Senate Passes Smoking Ban Bill

The Indiana Senate has passed its version of a statewide smoking ban. The 29-21 vote marks the first time such a proposal has made it through the chamber. The passage comes despite several amendments to the bill, including exemptions for bars, taverns and gaming facilities.

The proposal is now expected to a House-Senate conference committee.

Governor Mitch Daniels has stated he would sign the bill once it reached his desk, but he was hoping it would have very few exemptions.
