Terre Haute-based Templeton Coal Co. Inc. has appointed its sixth president. For the past two years, Curt Brighton has been president of Hulman & Co. He will succeed Tom Templeton.

TERRE HAUTE, IND.—W. Curtis (Curt) Brighton is now the sixth president of Templeton Coal Company, Inc., a privately held, 91-year-old Terre Haute corporation. Brighton takes the reins from Thomas E. Templeton, who served as president since 1993 and is now chairman and CEO through the end of the year.
Brighton comes to Templeton Coal Company, which he has served as a director since 2008, with diverse professional and educational experience. The past two years he had been president of Hulman & Company, which he earlier served as executive vice president and general counsel since 1994. During his tenure, the company’s interests included food manufacturing, motorsports, television broadcasting and production, and real estate. While at Hulman & Company, Brighton provided leadership and counsel concerning planning to all Hulman business interests.
Prior to his work with Hulman & Company, Brighton worked as a private practice attorney in general civil practice. In addition, he has provided executive leadership to Lynch Coal Operators Reciprocal Association since 1985.
Aside from his professional experiences, Brighton has given extensive service on boards of directors, including financial institutions, health-care organizations, business trade associations and coal-related businesses. He also has an extensive record of serving not-for-profit organizations, including Wabash Valley Community Foundation, I.S.U. Foundation, Union Hospital, Hulman & Company Foundation, Indiana Chemical Trust and Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation. Brighton is a graduate of the Scott College of Business at Indiana State University and Drake University Law School.
Founded in 1920 by Scottish immigrant John A. Templeton I, Templeton Coal Company is a diversified business with mining interests in nearby Sullivan and Knox counties. The company also holds subsidiary companies Glas-Col LLC, Terre Haute; Dicksons Inc., Seymour, Ind.; and Plumb Supply Company LLC, Des Moines, Iowa.
