Brinegar Upbeat About Prospects For Education Reform

InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report

Indiana Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Brinegar outlines what he considers key aspects of the governor's speech.

The president of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce expects all of the education reforms outlined in Governor Mitch Daniels' State of the State Address to be passed by the General Assembly. Kevin Brinegar says some may take slightly different forms than originally put forth, but believes there is nothing blocking the proposed changes from being enacted.

Brinegar says the governor did a good job outlining why education changes are necessary for the state to "leapfrog forward" in student achievement.

Democratic House Leader Pat Bauer has stated he believes the governor virtually ignored jobs during the State of the State.

Brinegar says the chamber, governor's office and state legislature have done a lot in recent years to create a more business friendly environment that has "bore a lot of fruit."

He feels the Governor is taking a more long-term approach in properly educating the work force to help create jobs in the future.
