McRobbie says the university has saved money through staff attrition, freezing salaries and cutting non-faculty travel spending.

Indiana University President Michael McRobbie wants a plan put together that could have a significant impact on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus and central Indiana's life sciences sector. In his State of the University speech McRobbie stated the IUPUI Master Plan and Clarian Health Master Plan will "be conceptually linked together" and should be finished in about six months.

He adds the IUPUI and Clarian campuses are physically linked together with new buildings pushing against property boundaries.
McRobbie also address the university's budget situation, saying the university has been fortunate to avoid furloughs, layoffs and construction delays that have been reported on campuses throughout the country.
He says the institution will meet its $58.1 million dollar spedning cut target through previously announced cost saving measures.
