[UPDATED] Can Social Media Save Vision Racing?

InsideINdianaBusiness.com Report

IndyCar Driver Ed Carpenter hopes to be back behind the wheel of a Vision Racing car this year and tells IIB he was aware of the team's strong social media following, but is still surprised.

Indianapolis-based Vision Racing is utilizing social media Web sites like Twitter and Facebook in an effort to save the business. The IndyCar team, which suspended operations last week, has put out a call to followers on those sites to write letters of support that will be presented to potential sponsors. The effort started over the weekend and organizers are closing in on 500 letters.

IndyCar Driver Ed Carpenter says the team has not been given a deadline to end the Web-based effort to attract sponsors, but he's working like that deadline "was yesterday."

He says members of Vision Racing would love to be part the Indy 500, but the main goal at this point is to do everything to keep the team in business.

Vision Racing suspended operations due to a lack of sponsors as the new Indy Racing League season approached.
