The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University will host a conference next month to discuss strategies to meet national and local needs in the current economic climate. Speakers at the December 8 event include Howard W. Buffett with the White House Office of Social Innovation and Alcoa Foundation Chief Operating Officer Velma Monteiro-Tribble. Sessions are expected to focus on creating relationships with donors, building new partnerships across sectors and strategic planning for measurable nonprofit impact.

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University will host a one-day symposium in Indianapolis December 8th. The event will benefit nonprofit decision makers, philanthropic donors and funders, and fundraisers, and will give them information and strategies to meet national and local needs.
It will bring together top research experts in philanthropy with national leaders from the nonprofit, government and business sectors to discuss the role of trust in meeting challenges exacerbated by the current economic climate.
Sessions focus on creating relationships with donors, building new partnerships across sectors, and strategic planning for measurable nonprofit impact.
All sessions are open to the public and will take place at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis at One South Capitol Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

The Center on Philanthropy will present the Henry A. Rosso Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Ethical Fundraising to Murray Blackwelder, president of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation and former senior vice president of advancement at Purdue University, and Curt Simic, president emeritus of the Indiana University Foundation.
Blackwelder and Simic will join a panel to share stories of how partnerships forged in challenging circumstances fulfilled both a donor’s dreams and a nonprofit’s mission. The panel will include:

The ceremony will honor two distinguished nonprofits and the recipient of the Indianapolis Business Journal's Michael A. Carroll Award for community service.
The 10th annual Indiana Achievement Awards will be presented to:
Second Helpings, Inc., an Indianapolis-based community kitchen that rescues prepared and perishable food to feed the hungry, and that offers culinary training to disadvantaged adults.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, a Bloomington-based food pantry that provides healthful, wholesome foods to people in need, as well as nutrition and gardening education.
Paul Brest, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, will give the Donikian Family Lecture. Co-author of Money Well Spent: A Strategic Plan for Smart Philanthropy, he challenges nonprofits and foundations to become more strategic and to create meaningful, measurable impact.
