Hundreds of surplus items from Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus are going up for auction this weekend. The tourist attraction is closed for the season, and Saturday's auction will include bumper boats, electric scooters and kitchen equipment. Park President Will Koch says the park's "clutter could easily be someone else's treasure."

(November 16, 2009) SANTA CLAUS, IND - Although Holiday World & Splashin' Safari are closed for the season, the parking lot gates will re-open to the public Saturday as the park auctions hundreds of useful, unusual and collectible items.

“A few months ago, I sent out the word for the staff to ‘clean house,’” says park president Will Koch. “Year to year, we ‘retire’ various equipment and other items. We like to think our clutter could easily be someone else’s treasure.”

The list of auction items includes:

Electric Scooters
Two Bumper Boats
Parking lot lights
Professional kitchen equipment
Surplus theming items from The Voyage’s station
Theatrical lighting and sound equipment
Antique double-sided “Red Brand Fence Authorized Dealer” sign
Antique oxen yoke
Antique flat-top trunk (purchased years ago from a traveling circus)

The auction is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, at 10:00 am CST at the Lakeside Picnic Shelter, which is adjacent to Holiday World’s “Raven” parking lot. Scott Dixon of Dixon & Dixon Auction Service in Tell City will be the auctioneer.

Visitors to the town of Santa Claus on Saturday will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Santa Claus Christmas Celebration, which runs weekends through Christmas: .

Holiday World, the world’s first theme park, will open its 64th season on May 1, 2010. Splashin' Safari will open for the season on May 14, with the premiere of Wildebeest, the world’s longest water coaster.
