The Warsaw-Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce is stressing the potential dramatic impact of health care reform legislation passed by the U.S. House. It has sent letters to state and national leaders outlining the effect of a tax on medical device makers, which would help pay for health care. Our partners at Fox 28 in South Bend say many business leaders are concerned the tax would be devastating for the economy in a county that includes Warsaw, which is considered the orthopedic capital of the world.

The plan passed by the House would impose a 2.5 percent tax on sales of medical devices.
It also includes a clause limiting the dollar amount that can be reimbursed by hospitals.
Fox 28 reports Congressman Joe Donnelly says the legislation would bring in $1.5 trillion in revenue allowing medical device companies will be able to offset the tax.
He has been working with medical device makers in Kosciusko County to help craft the legislation.
Donnelly voted in favor of the bill, which still has to go through the Senate.
