Valparaiso officials say it is the first time in over 20 years that a community in either Lake or Porter County has ever received the award.

Businesses from around the state will be honored today as the Indiana Chamber of Commerce hands out its annual awards. A luncheon in Indianapolis will feature the Small Business of the Year and Indiana Chamber Volunteers of the Year winners. The 20th annual awards dinner is set for tonight. The honors to be handed out at that event include Business Leader of the Year and Government Leader of the Year.

The chamber will also honor the city of Valparaiso, which has previously been announced as Community of the Year.
The chamber says the city earned the honor for revitalizing crucial entryways along with $40 million in public investments since 2004, nearly $700 million in private investment and creating an additional 1,500 to 2,000 jobs.
