An economic development announcement is planned tomorrow morning at the Newport Chemical Depot in Vermillion County. Governor Mitch Daniels will join company executives for the event. In July, the U.S. Army Chemical Materials Agency announced plans to lay off approximately 180 workers since the destruction of VX chemical agent is now complete.

The 180 workers were employees of Parsons Corp., which dismantled the facility that had been responsible for the destruction of VX chemical agent.
Officials said some workers moved to positions at other chemical agent disposal facilities.
The layoffs were part of the military's plan to shut down the facility now that the nerve agent has been destroyed.
