The general manager of General Motors' Metal Center Plant in Indianapolis is retiring. Jeff Haynes will step down October 1 after 37 years with the automaker. He is being replaced by Gary Malkus, who is currently the plant manager at the company's Lake Orion Assembly facility in Michigan.

Jeff Haynes has elected to retire on October 1st after 37 years of distinguished service with the company.
Jeff has been a major advocate within the automotive stamping industry. Haynes began his GM career in 1972 as a College co-op student in Marion, Indiana. He went on to hold several positions at the GM Marion plant, including, supervisor of the Tool and Die Room in 1977, supervisor of Maintenance in 1981, superintendent of Maintenance in 1983 and superintendent of production in 1987. In 1990, Haynes transferred to GM’s Parma, Ohio plant, where he held several executive positions at the facility. In 1996, he was appointed area manager at the Parma facility and went on to hold the same position at GM’s stamping plant in Flint, Michigan. In 2002, Haynes was appointed assistant plant manager at the Flint plant, and then went on to become assistant plant manager at GM’s Indianapolis, Indiana stamping plant in 2005. He was appointed to his current position in 2007. Haynes holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Administration from Kettering University (Formally GMI).
Gary Malkus, currently plant manager at Lake Orion Assembly in Michigan, will replace Jeff as the Indianapolis Metal Center plant Manager. Malkus began his GM career in 1968 as a GMI student at the former GM Assembly Division in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1977, he transferred to the GM Assembly Division headquarters in Warren, Michigan, where he held a variety of positions in engineering and planning. In 1987, he became director of plant Quality Control at the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Lansing car plant. Malkus held several leadership positions at Lansing car, becoming the assistant plant manager in 1990. In 1998, he expatriated to Antwerp, Belgium to become plant manager of GM’s Belgium Opel plant. He returned to the U.S. in 2002 to assume his current position. Malkus holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University, (formerly GMI) and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University.
