Press Release
INDIANAPOLIS - January 23, 2009 - Leadership Ventures and Indianapolis ORG Magazine will again partner in an effort to tackle issues that affect the future of central Indiana’s nonprofit sector. The 2009 Indiana Nonprofit Town Hall Meeting [Leveraging the Lean Times] will once again bring together leadership from the central
Indiana nonprofit sector in order to learn, connect, inspire, share, collaborate and celebrate! The event will take place March 17 in downtown Indianapolis at the Crowne Plaza/Historic Union Station and will feature nationallyrecognized keynote speakers Robert Egger and Marianne Hughes. (Photos and biographies attached). In addition, three of central Indiana’s most respected grant making organizations will partner with event organizers to help address the economic issues faced by nonprofit organizations in central Indiana in 2009. The Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF), the United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI), and the Indiana Grantmaker’s Alliance (IGA) are presenting sponsors of this full-day event, each with a desire to strengthen nonprofit services in central Indiana, supporting a message of collaboration, consolidation, and cooperation to survive a tough economic climate. The generous support of foundation and corporate sponsors allows event organizers to offer this event at a very minimal charge [to cover the cost of lunch].
Leadership, management and other attendees interested in the nonprofit sector will participate in a variety of “conversations” that will take place throughout the Town Hall Meeting including multiple breakout sessions (full schedule available for download at Leadershipventures.org beginning xxx). The event will center around organizational and sector-wide strategies for maximizing resources and reducing costs.
“We are excited by the opportunity to celebrate accomplishments as a sector, but more importantly, to work together to strengthen it in these challenging times and for years to come,” said Ruth Purcell Jones, President of Leadership Ventures. “We have long acknowledged the need to unite across sub sectors, to address common issues and Town Hall proved to be the perfect venue for that discussion in 2008.” During the event, participants will be asked to think strategically about the sector, share successful strategies already taken, learn new ways to further collaborate and
creatively plan for the future.
Back by popular demand, this uniquely formatted Nonprofit Town Hall Meeting first held in Indianapolis in April 2008 will return as a mainstay of the community providing an interactive platform for the sector to continue discussions about other (current and long-standing) issues important to the growth, stability and strength of the nonprofit sector. In 2008, the first Indiana Nonprofit Town Hall Meeting--an initiative of the National Council of Nonprofit Associations--resulted in an overwhelming desire for further discussion and action in the area of nonprofit leadership including practices, principles, and accountability. The event will also host a special Nonprofit Resource MarketPlace that will feature exhibitors specializing in innovative and valuable resources including products and services that can help nonprofits meet their financial management, networking, fundraising and strategic planning
goals.
