D'Amico's term on the Commission for Higher Education expires in 2011.

The president and chief executive officer of Conexus Indiana has been named to the state Commission for Higher Education. The appointment of Carol D'Amico is one of a handful announced Wednesday by Governor Mitch Daniels. They also include the appointment of President and Chief Executive Officer of information technology consultant firm Bucher & Christian, Justin Christian to the state Gaming Commission.

Commission for Higher Education
The commission was created to define the educational missions of public colleges and universities, plan and coordinate Indiana’s state-supported system of postsecondary education, review budget requests from public institutions and SSACI and approve or disapprove for public institutions the establishment of new programs or the expansion of campuses.
Membership: 14 gubernatorial appointees.
Governor’s appointment:
Carol D’Amico (Indianapolis), president and CEO of Conexus Indiana.
Term expires July 1, 2011.
Gaming Commission
The commission’s purpose is to license and regulate riverboat gambling in Indiana and ensure compliance with applicable statutes, rules and regulations.
Membership: Seven gubernatorial appointees.
Governor’s appointment:
Justin Christian (Indianapolis), president and CEO of Bucher & Christian, an information technology consultant firm.
Term expires July 1, 2009.
State Board of Health Facility Administrators
The board issues licenses to qualified persons as health facility administrators and establishes qualification criteria for health facility administrators. The board adopts rules establishing standards for the competent practice of a health facility administrator, and may suspend, deny or revoke licenses for violations of those standards.
Membership: Nine gubernatorial appointees and four state agency representatives.
Governor’s appointment:
Jennifer Gappa (Logansport), senior administrator, Miller’s Merry Manor and member of the Indiana Health Care Association Board of Directors.
Term expires July 1, 2011.
State Fair Commission
The commission’s main role is to establish policy and procedure for the year-round operation of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Membership: Five gubernatorial appointees, three others prescribed by statute.
Governor’s appointment:
Dana Huber (Borden), marketing director of Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards.
Term expires September 30, 2012.
Funeral and Cemetery Services Board
The board is responsible for adopting rules which establish standards for the sale and payment of funeral, burial services or merchandise in advance of need, registering and issuing certificates to sellers of merchandise or services, determining compliance with state law by persons engaged in the sale and payment of funeral, burial services or merchandise, investigating any complaint alleging a violation.
Membership: 10 gubernatorial appointees and the Indiana State Department of Health Commissioner.
Governor’s appointment:
Jim Todd (Rushville), owner/operator of Todd Funeral Home and president of the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.
Term expires July 1, 2012.
Land Surveyors Board of Registration
The purpose of the board is to establish standards for the competent practice of land surveying, including registration of those who practice land surveying. The board reviews applications for registration, and also establishes guidelines and minimum qualifications for registration.
Membership: Seven gubernatorial appointees.
Governor’s appointments:
Christine Arnold (Indianapolis), vice president of Referral Center, Inc.
Gary Kent (Noblesville), director of Surveying for Schneider Corporation.
Terms expire July 1, 2012.
Professional Engineers Registration Board
The board is tasked with establishing requirements to attain a professional engineer certificate in the state including the time, place and content of the certification exams and determining whether particular applicants have met those requirements.
Membership: Seven gubernatorial appointees.
Governor’s appointment:
· Dr. Vincent Drnevich, professor at Purdue University School of Engineering and president of the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers.
Term expires July 1, 2009.
Community and Home Options to Institutional Care for the Elderly (CHOICE)
The CHOICE board is required to establish long term goals for the provision of a continuum of care for the elderly and disabled; review state policies on community and home care services; recommend legislative changes affecting community and home care services; evaluate cost effectiveness, quality, scope, and feasibility of a state administered system of community and home care services; review proposed rules concerning home and community based services.
Membership: Nine gubernatorial appointees and seven others prescribed by statute.
Governor’s appointments:
-Kay Crawford (Indianapolis), senior fellow at the Center for Aging and Community at the University of Indianapolis and an associate fellow at the Sagamore Institute.
-Dorian Maples (Fort Wayne); geriatric care manager at Dorian Maples & Associates.
- Jean Macdonald (Indianapolis), director of regulatory policy for the Indiana Association for Home and Hospice Care.
-John Holmes (Indianapolis), executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation.
-Dr. Tim Janis (Franklin), retired president of ARAC, Inc., a technology transfer company and NASA contractor.
Terms expire July 1, 2010.
