Mayor Armstrong says Cummins has a reputation of generously supporting local charities, another area that may suffer if the recession deepens.

He says businesses and local government will continue to do what is necessary to survive the recession.

Cummins' latest moves, combined with reductions announced last month, bring the total number of eliminations in Cummins' professional workforce to more than 1,400.

The company is also reducing its hourly workforce by more than 600 and cutting approximately 2,500 contingent workers.
