Press Release
Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc. is developing plans to curtail the operations at our Huntington plant at 1890 Riverfork Drive, Huntington, Indiana on what we expect at this time to be a permanent basis. Consistent with these plans, employment separations are expected to commence on or about November 14, 2008. We anticipate that these plans, when finalized, would be permanent and they would ultimately involve the entire facility.
We are forwarding this letter to provide you with notice of the curtailment and the timetable for its implementation.
We plan to curtail the operations at the facility in seven phases; the first on or about November 14, 2008, the second on or about November 21, 2008, the third on or about December 9, 2008, the fourth on or about December 12, 2008, the fifth on or about
December 31, 2008, the sixth on or about January 9, 2009 and the seventh on or about January 30, 2009. We anticipate that the curtailment will cause potential employee separations at this facility as follows: 51 positions on November 14, 2008, 17 positions
on November 21, 2008, 74 positions on December 9, 2008, 16 positions on December 12, 2008, 1 position on December 31, 2008, 1 position on January 9, 2009, and 26 positions on January 30, 2009. (These dates are based on present information and
could move 14 days at a later time.) A list of job titles and the number of employees currently holding affected positions accompanies this letter as Attachment A. This announcement and the above timetable are based on the best information currently
available. However, various factors may still affect these plans and the timing of employee separations. You will be informed of any changes or as additional information becomes available. Note that we were not able to provide notice of this curtailment earlier because our OEM customers only recently announced severe production cuts.
The scope and extent of these production cuts were not reasonably foreseeable.
