EVANSVILLE, IN – Deaconess Health System announces the formation of The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway, LLC. The Heart Hospital is a joint venture with area cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and Deaconess.
Deaconess has a long history of partnering with physicians to provide enhanced care to the residents of the Tri-State. “This is a great step in taking our heart program to the next level in providing the very best heart services in the Tri-State and continuing our position as the market leader,” said Linda White, president and CEO of Deaconess Health System.
The Heart Hospital, connected to Deaconess Gateway Hospital, began operating as its own entity on October 4. The formal name is The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway, more commonly known as The Heart Hospital.
The heart program at Deaconess is the largest in the region. It has been nationally recognized as a Top 100 heart program, has achieved the highest Three-Star rankings by United Healthcare and is designated as a Center of Excellence by Anthem. The program has received state and national awards for clinical processes and services – including its rapid treatment of chest pain – and is designated by the Society of Chest Pain Centers as a Chest Pain Emergency Center for its locations at Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
The Heart Hospital opened in January 2006 as part of Deaconess Gateway Hospital. With this new arrangement, The Heart Hospital becomes the only acute care heart hospital dedicated to the treatment of heart and vascular care in the region and is unique in its use of a universal bed model in patient care delivery. “This opportunity for area physicians to partner with Deaconess in cardiovascular care provides for exceptional hospital-physician synergy in the delivery of high quality and efficient services to our Tri-State community,” said Dr. Satyam Tatineni, president of The Heart Group, PC.
Rebecca Malotte, RN, MSN has been named Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer of the new entity. Malotte has more than 30 years experience in cardiovascular management and was the Executive Director of Heart Services for Deaconess Health System.

The Women’s Hospital, 100 beds
Deaconess Gateway Hospital, 92 beds
HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, 80 beds
