Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority (ISCBA) today announced a series of events to celebrate the grand opening of Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS). Most notable among them is the public ribbon-cutting ceremony and opportunity for the public to tour the Stadium on Saturday, August 16.

"We're excited to invite Hoosiers to Lucas Oil Stadium on August 16 to celebrate the opening of what has already become an Indiana landmark," said David R. Frick, board chairman of the ISCBA. "This is one of several occasions over a three-week period, and before the Indianapolis Colts regular season begins, for Indiana citizens to visit and enjoy this magnificent building."

The August 16th grand opening event will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the Stadium’s northside exterior at 9:30 a.m. This historic occasion will be officiated by Governor Mitch Daniels, Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and other dignitaries and participants involved with the project. Following the ribbon-cutting, the public is invited by the ISCBA and the Capital Improvement Board (CIB, the entity that will operate the building) to take a self-guided tour of the Stadium during three sessions: at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. The event will conclude at 4:00 p.m. Tour tickets are free, but required. Tickets are limited to four per person and can be obtained at www.ticketmaster.com and the Conseco Fieldhouse box office beginning July 14. Included on the tour is the chance to walk on the field and see non-public areas such as a suite and locker room, as well as an opportunity to purchase food and souvenirs at concession stands.

The first Indianapolis Colts regular season football game is on Sunday, September 7 at 8:15 p.m. against the Chicago Bears and will be nationally televised. However, before that game takes place, the ISCBA and CIB have scheduled several other events to showcase the facility. LOS Stadium Director Mike Fox announced that Lucas Oil Stadium will host several football games in August and early September. These include:

The ninth Annual PeyBack Classic – Friday, August 22 – Noblesville and Fishers play the first football game in the stadium, followed by a match-up between Whiteland and New Palestine. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning launched the Peyback Classic to provide Indiana high school football teams an opportunity to play a game on the Colts home field.

High School Football Quadrupleheader – Saturday, August 23 – Elwood plays Heritage Christian, then Shelbyville takes on Greensburg. Zionsville will play Lafayette Jeff and then Avon will play Hamilton Southeastern.

High School Football Double Header – Friday, September 5 - North Central plays Ben Davis, then Lawrence North plays Warren Central.

"This extraordinary new stadium will be used by generations of Hoosiers," said LOS Stadium Director Mike Fox. "It seems fitting that an Indiana high school student athlete will be the first to score a touchdown or field goal during an event connected with legendary quarterback Peyton Manning."

On Sunday, August 17, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Indianapolis Colts are inviting their season ticket holders to visit the Stadium and locate their seats. The Indianapolis Colts will announce details of this event.

The Indianapolis Colts will also play two preseason games in Lucas Oil Stadium in late August:

Indianapolis Colts vs. Buffalo Bills – Sunday, August 24 at 8:00 p.m.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Cincinnati Bengals – Thursday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to these sporting events, Fox said that the first concert LOS will host will occur Saturday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m. featuring Kenny Chesney and Leann Rimes in the "Poets and Pirates Tour."

On Monday, August 11, a construction workers ceremony will be held to salute the men and women who built the facility and provide an opportunity for them to show family members what they accomplished. On Thursday, August 14, guests of key customers and sponsors of the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium will attend an event that will include a tour of the building, refreshments and entertainment. Proceeds from the $250 per person charge will underwrite the event.

"We are thrilled to announce these events today," said David Frick, Chairman of the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority. "We recognize that through the efforts and determination of thousands of Hoosiers, what began as an exciting idea, became an achievable plan, that now has evolved into a spectacular reality."

The ISCBA is the state agency responsible for financing, designing and constructing the new Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center expansion. Upon its completion, the Capital Improvement Board of Managers of Marion County (CIB) will operate both facilities. For more information on the ISCBA and both projects, visit www.in.gov/iscba.
