Press Release

Muncie, IN,– Al Pete Meats, Inc., a food processing and packaging company located at 2100 East Willard Street on Muncie’s near east side will be investing $730,000 in new manufacturing equipment, new information technology equipment and new real property improvements. These equipment acquisitions and building improvements will enable the company to create 20 new jobs with an accompanying annual payroll of $460,000. All 17 existing jobs and $406,253 annual payroll will be retained.

The Vision 2011 Economic Development Alliance staff assisted Al Pete Meats, Inc. and Monogram Foods in the abatement process. The Muncie City Council approved 5-year tax abatements on manufacturing equipment and information technology equipment, and a ten year tax abatement on property improvements at their February 4 council meeting.

Al Pete Meats, Inc. has been in business locally since 1961 and this project is the start of a merger and acquisition of the company by Monogram Foods, Inc. Monogram is out of Memphis, Tennessee. The company has over 160 employees in facilities in Tennessee, Texas and Minnesota. They specialize in hot dogs, corn dogs, beef jerky, smoked sausage and other meat snack items. They see a synergy with Al Pete Meats in the development of a corn dog product line locally as well as retaining some of the “Pete’s Pride” line of products. It is also quite possible that Al Pete Meats will get into hot dog production in the future. Monogram presently has endorsement agreements on some of their products with celebrities like Jeff Foxworthy and on such nationally known entities like NASCAR.
