Press Release

At a ceremony this afternoon (Oct. 1, 2007), Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) and the Indiana University School of Medicine ceremoniously broke ground for the Medical Education Building, the newest construction project on the IPFW campus. The more than 41,000-square-foot Medical Education Building will house an Indiana University School of Medicine facility.

Located north of IPFW’s new John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center, the building will include two stories and a basement with state-of-the art lecture halls and laboratories for first- and second-year medical and allied health students and faculty research. The Medical Education Building will also help support community health organizations and functions.

“Most importantly,” said IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell, “the new building will serve as the future home for the third and fourth years of medical school education and the center for clinical research programs on the IPFW campus. In that way, it will also be an important tool for economic development.”
