Sunrise Medical HHG, Inc. says it will consolidate its North American operations to Plainfield, creating 70 new jobs. The company plans to close its manufacturing facility in Tennessee and relocate its Florida and Massachusetts-based engineering and assembly operations to a new facility in Plainfield. The company manufactures wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and other patient-care products.

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Aug. 10, 2007) — Sunrise Medical HHG, Inc., a global manufacturer of wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and other patient-care products, announced today it will consolidate its North American operations here, creating 70 new jobs.
The company will close its manufacturing facility in Memphis, Tenn. and relocate its Florida- and Massachusetts-based engineering and assembly operations to a new 180,000-square-foot facility here.
“Creating an environment that allows businesses like Sunrise to grow and thrive in Indiana is imperative to our economic success,” said Governor Mitch Daniels. “With its skilled workforce and access to key transportation hubs, Central Indiana is establishing itself as a great place to invest and do business.”
The expansion follows the company’s decision to locate a pilot facility in Indianapolis in 2006 to test the business climate and capabilities of Central Indiana’s workforce
“We at Sunrise Medical are extremely excited about our new Plainfield facility,” said Allen Traylor, vice president of distribution and logistics. “It offers us a central location to major shipping lanes and Indiana is providing us with an excellent workforce that will allow us to meet our Company objectives.”
Sunrise Medical operates facilities in the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. The company’s products are shipped to sales organizations and distributors in more than 90 countries worldwide and include name brands such as Quickie, Sopur, Jay, DeVilbiss, Hoyer, Guardian, Coopers, Oxford and Joerns.
“We are delighted with Sunrise Medical’s decision to locate in the Town of Plainfield,” said Robin Brandgard, Town Council President. “Sunrise Medical joins a growing list of prominent medical/life science related companies to choose Plainfield to grow and expand their businesses.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the company up to $250,000 in performance-based tax credits and $36,000 in training grants based upon the company’s announced job creation plans. The Town of Plainfield offered the company property tax abatement worth more than $436,000.
