Press Release

Columbus Regional Hospital is one of only three hospitals in the country to receive the 2007 Most Wired Innovator Award from Hospitals & Health Network, the magazine by the American Hospital Association. Columbus Regional Hospital has received this national award for the second straight year, which recognizes innovation in healthcare technology.

The hospital was honored for its Wireless Nurse Call System, which provides new technology for patients to reach their lead nurse directly via a portable wireless device, instead of the old “call light” system. Columbus Regional Hospital is among the first hospitals in the country to integrate the latest technologies into a unique wireless communication system that provides information to doctors, nurses, and other caregivers as quickly and efficiently as possible. This has reduced the wait time for patients and improved overall communications.

The Most Wired Survey is conducted annually by the American Hospital Association’s Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The national awards focus on how the nation’s hospitals use information technology for quality, customer service, safety, business processes, and workforce issues.

“This award further demonstrates how we are using technology to ensure the highest quality and safety for our patients, and the Wireless Nurse Call System is making a difference for the daily care of our patients,” says Diana Boyer, Vice President & Chief Information Officer at Columbus Regional Hospital.
The Most Wired Innovator Award will be presented to Columbus Regional Hospital at the national 2007 Health Forum and AHA Leadership Summit in San Diego on July 23. For more information on the award visit www.hhnmag.com.
