Press Release
Two important milestones for Providence Cristo Rey High School (PCRHS), the city’s newest high school, are around the corner. Set to open its doors to its student body for the first time this summer, PCRHS will provide a private, Catholic, college prep education and career experience with some of Indianapolis’ top employers. In addition to applying themselves to a rigorous academic program during the school year, each student will hold a professional, entry-level job share position to earn the majority of his/her school tuition.
The two upcoming milestones are a Grand Opening Celebration on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, and a three-week student Training Institute from Monday, July 16, 2007, to Friday, August 3, 2007. A corporate ‘boot camp’ of sorts; this program immerses students in interactive skill training on everything from keyboarding to conflict resolution to ensure success on the job.
More than 100 incoming freshman and sophomores are trading in their shorts and sneakers for oxford shirts and dress pants. These dedicated students are foregoing a good portion of their summer vacations to attend the unique Training Institute noted above.
For the Grand Opening Celebration, community, school and business leaders will be gathering in a dedication ceremony to wish students well and thank those in the community who have donated their time and resources to make this unique private school a reality in Indianapolis.
Grand Opening Celebration, Wednesday, August 15, 2007, 11:00 a.m.
Training Institute, Monday, July 16, 2007– Friday, August 3, 2007, 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Providence Cristo Rey High School, 75 N. Belleview Place, Indianapolis, 46222
National statistics show the Providence Cristo Rey model works: 99 percent of seniors graduate and 96 percent are accepted to colleges and universities—a sharp contrast to the general statistics across Indianapolis.
