Clarian Health Clinical Programs Rank in National Guide

INDIANAPOLIS—Ten clinical programs at Clarian Health ranked among the top 50 national programs in U.S. News & World Report’s “2007 America’s Best Hospitals Guide.” Clarian’s Methodist Hospital and Indiana University Hospital were the only Indiana hospitals included in the rankings and are among only 173 hospitals recognized out of the 5,462 evaluated nationwide.

Programs at the Clarian hospitals, a partner of the Indiana University School of Medicine, ranked in 10 out of 16 specialties included the July 16 issue, up from five rankings last year. U.S. News has annually ranked America’s medical centers for 18 years “to help patients find the best hospital when the need is great.” This is Clarian and IUSM’s 10th consecutive appearance in the guide. Board-certified specialists from across the country rank hospitals based on reputation, a mortality index, advanced technology capabilities, credentialing by professional bodies, and nursing care. Hospitals must also meet one of three requirements for eligibility for ranking: affiliation with a medical school, membership in the Council of Teaching Hospitals or having a minimum of at least six of 13 advanced technologies available.

This year’s rankings do not include pediatric specialties or children’s hospitals, but U.S. News indicates this is only a temporary absence. It will return in the near future with revamped and expanded information.
