A member of the Indianapolis contingent in Nashville for the owner’s meeting tells Inside INdiana Business that Colts’ Owner Jim Irsay was told by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that the vote was very close, “perhaps 17-15”.
In a prepared statement, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said, “Like the Super Bowl itself, second place doesn’t feel very good. It was well worth the effort and Mayor Peterson and his team did an absolutely spectacular job representing our state.”
In an interview for Inside INdiana Business Radio, Inside INdiana Sports Host Bill Benner told Kate Shepherd it appears to be a case of the NFL following the money. The Cowboys new stadium in nearby Arlington can be configured to seat about 95,000 fans for the Super Bowl, nearly 25,000 more than Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium.
