The associations are urging state lawmakers to repeal the law. They say it hurts small businesses that can't sell liquor much of the day and the State of Indiana because it loses out on tax collections.

Press Release

The Indiana Licensed Beverage Association and the Restaurant and Hospitality Association of Indiana would like to remind all Hoosiers that on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7th, under current Indiana law, Indiana alcohol retailers are not allowed to sell alcohol until the polls close at 6:00 pm.

Both the Indiana Licensed Beverage Association and the Restaurant and Hospitality Association of Indiana will be urging legislators to repeal this prohibition on Election Day alcohol sales. Seeing that this archaic law dates to the days when bars and taverns were the common polling places in many communities, both associations would like to point out that now this law not only hurts Hoosier small businesses that are not allowed to operate a large part of their business for a majority of the day, but it also hurts the State of Indiana which is losing a sizeable tax collection that could help balance tight budgets.

As Indiana more and more becomes a center for national conventions, a destination for sports enthusiasts, and a major transportation hub, the time has come for Indiana to join the other 47 states that allow for responsible sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages on Election Day.
