The Indianapolis Bar Association and about 75 volunteer attorneys will on Tuesday offer free legal advice at ten Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library branches and at the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis.

Volunteers will be able to answer questions on a variety of legal issues including divorce, bankruptcy and employment laws. Individuals may also call the Legal Line, which is offered on the second Tuesday of each month.

Indianapolis - Nearly 75 volunteer attorneys from the Indianapolis Bar Association will be available in person or on the phone to give free legal guidance to the public on Tuesday, April 11, 2006. The attorneys will be taking part in Ask A Lawyer at 10 Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library branches and at the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, as well as answering phones as part of the monthly Legal Line program.
Individuals can meet with an attorney on a first come, first served basis during Ask A Lawyer from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 11 at the following library branches:

The IBA is please to have a downtown location this year for Ask A Lawyer; the Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis is located at 530 W. New York St. on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis.
Individuals also may call Legal Line at (317) 269-2000 to speak with an attorney over the phone from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 11 (the phones will be answered one hour longer than the face-to-face sessions.) Legal Line is offered the second Tuesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; in April, it coincides with the Ask A Lawyer program.
Attorney volunteers are prepared to answer questions on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, divorce, child custody, child support, landlord/tenant issues, bankruptcy, personal injury, employment law and more.
"For more than 18 years, the IBA has been offering programs like Ask A Lawyer and Legal Line to the public," said Julie Armstrong, IBA Executive Director. "I believe it has proven to be a convenient way for members of the community to gain access to simple legal information."
Callers with more complex legal issues are encouraged to seek representation through the IBA's Lawyer Referral Service at (317) 269-2222, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ask A Lawyer is a community service event sponsored by the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Foundation, in cooperation with the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library.
