The switch to Central Time in the county was recently approved by federal officials. However, commissioners are concerned about the impact of the switch on the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center. Sixty-seven percent of Crane’s employees would live in one time zone and work in another without area counties changing back to Eastern Time. The decision would also split the West Gate @ Crane Technology Park into two time zones.
Martin County Commissioners say they hope their action prompts other counties in the area to do the same.
