Dr. Paul Nelson has joined St. Vincent Medical Group at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital. He is the program director for the General Surgery Residency Program at St. Vincent in Indianapolis.
CARMEL, Ind. ó Paul W. Nelson, MD, FACS, board certified general surgery, has joined St.Vincent Medical Group at St.Vincent Carmel Hospital. Dr. Nelson is the program director for the newly accredited General Surgery Residency Program at St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, and is opening a new general surgery practice at St.Vincent Carmel Hospital. He also serves as a trauma surgeon at the St.Vincent Trauma Center in Indianapolis. Dr. Nelson has special interests in endocrine, hernia, gastrointestinal and dialysis access surgeries.
Prior to coming to St.Vincent, he practiced general, trauma and transplant surgeries in Kansas City since 1984. He held the rank of professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and is former president of Medical Staff and credentials chair at St. Lukeís Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Nelson has been involved in the education of surgical residents for 27 years.
He earned his bachelorís degree from Dartmouth College, and medical degree from the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine. Dr. Nelson completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and a transplant surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General in Boston.
